🌈 Rainbow Ramblings βœ‚οΈπŸŒ·

Hey Reader!

There's a new addition in my studio! Okay technically, it doesn't become a new addition until my birthday next month, but, look at this beauty that now belongs to me!

She's a 1956 Featherweight and I adore her! She's in beautiful condition and hums so prettily when she sews (the photo has some lighting reflections that look like scratches - they're not there in real life!). I casually mentioned to my partner that a Featherweight was on my bucket list, next thing, we found one, picked it up and it's my upcoming birthday present! I'm being very good and holding off til my birthday to do any proper sewing on her. Imagine the restraint!!

We went on a bit of a road trip to pick this beauty up - 3 hours down to the coast. Decided to make a trip out of it and stay for the weekend. We booked this beautiful 1920's renovated hotel called Ballina Manor. It was so beautifully styled! I had packed some quilts to take with me for beach photos, but the foyer of this motel turned out to be just the place. I mean I got a bit of a strange look at my request to take quilt photos in the lobby, though was assured they've had stranger requests ;)

I mean look how perfectly moody and dreamy it was for the Book Binder quilt!

I also snapped some photos of a Halloween quilt but I'll share more about that a bit closer to the date! But in case you missed nabbing the Book Binder pattern, and these pics make you go "ooh I needa make a moody book quilt", here's the link ;)

In the Sewing Room

In case you missed it, though with nine of us FPP designers talking about it, chances are you might have already seen our big collab themed around the Sewing Room! But a brief explanation in case this is all new to you (and I'd hate for you to miss out!).

I've teamed up with eight fabulous paper piecing designers to create a big bundle of free patterns to share with you! Starting on the 20th August, you'll get one free pattern each day for nine days - all themed around our favourite place - the sewing room.

Here you can see my rainbow bright version on the left, and a lovely pastel rainbow version by Liza Taylor Handmade on the right. Aren't they so fun!

While it's a few more days til the pattern start sending out, now is the time to sign up so you don't miss out!

It's also the time to tell your friends because a good quilty friend gives you all the goss on this good stuff right? ;) You can forward them this email so they can sign themselves up, or send them the signup link. Sewing is way more fun with friends after all!

A new bloom in a Year of Flowers!

Our September flower has arrived in our Block of the Month, A Year of Flowers! It's my birth month flower, but I gotta be honest, it's not my favourite. It's the Morning Glory.

I'd much rather have the iris, but alas, I don't get a choice ;) I can however choose to sew either - or any of the other birth month flowers. As can you! We may be 3/4 of the way through this Block of the Month, but you can still jump in and join us. You'll get all the patterns released so far, plus the BoM bonuses.

In our Block of the Month, you get a new flower each month, in two versions. One rectangular, and one wedge shape that you can use to create a beautiful wreath (below left). Plus there's a frame pattern in case you want to make an alternative version of the quilt (below right).

A Mystery with a Mission

I was invited to join in with a bunch of wonderful quilters to participate in Cotton Cuts Mystery Quilt with a Mission. We each sew one of the month's clues and send it back to the team at Cotton Cuts to put together in a beautiful quilt. That quilt is then raffled off to raise money for a charity. This year it's the SJSA - Social Justice Sewing Academy, a non-profit founded in 2017, which aims to empower people to use textile art for personal transformation, community cohesion, and as a framework for activism and social change.

Here's what I received on the left, and what I stitched up on the right! It's all made with Tula Pink's Graywork and I can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Fun Finds

Need a lil more quilty inspiration? Let me add to that by sharing some of the fun finds I've come across in my internet travels.

A chicken!

You know I love chickens - and how cute is this design by Jodie of Ric Rac? The pattern is now available in her shop and I feel like you need to cluck on over and get your copy. (I already did!).

Your next read

We're just a couple of weeks away before we publish our second-last (ever!) issue of Make Modern! So I figured if you're looking for a quilty read, a lil reminder that you should go grab an issue or pick up the All-Access Pass might help!

Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts about a Block of the Month with me. If you missed filling out the survey, you can click here and lemme know what you think. Block of the Month survey

While I'm reading your answers and mulling over which direction to go for our next Block of the Month, I'm also sewing ahead of our third birthday in Make Mine Mini! There's going to be some fun stuff happening there so if you've been on the fence about joining us, lemme just say, now is an excellent time.

And lastly - a little update for those who've asked about how my son is going with his ADF (Australian Defence Force) training . He is doing great! He's passed the swim test, blitzed his personal best on the fitness assessments, and managing to rug up and stay warm during a very cold winter down south! I'm missing him terribly, but equally proud. I look forward to those brief phone calls from him once a week. Now I'm starting to think about what sort of quilt I can make him as a graduation gift!

Have an excellent week and don't forget to sign up for the Sewing Room event!

Happy sewing!

Click here to view this email in your web browser Hey Reader! The other day I realised it's been a year since we built my studio! I've shifted things around, changed the setup a bit, added a longarm machine, and spent many, many hours playing with fabric, sewing and designing since then. Basically it's my happy space. For those who may not have seen it, I did a series of videos on YouTube showing the progress. This one's the big reveal when everything was all set up. Essentially we built a...

Click here to view this email in your web browser Hey Reader! Carnival of Flowers has arrived here in Toowoomba - so September is all about the blossoms and the blooms. It seems I have absorbed that, perhaps somewhat subconsciously, or maybe I just really like sewing flowers ;) But I have some flowery goodness to share! First up - I got the binding on my Tilda Embroidery Flower quilt and it's complete! We even popped down to one of the local gardens for some photos. The gardens were full of...

Click here to view this email in your web browser Hey Reader! Spring has arrived here in Australia and all the flowers are starting to bloom. Near where I live in Toowoomba, each year they have the Carnival of Flowers. Toowoomba is known as the Garden City, but it's next level when it's Carnival! It's a huge event with the stunning gardens and flowers as the centrepiece. With this happening, I figured it was an excellent time to get my Tilda Embroidery Flower quilt finished so that I could...
