If you love modern quilting, particularly foundation paper piecing, this is the newsletter for you! You'll find a dose of rainbow, a little creative shenanigans and a bunch of quilty chatter coming your way each week.
Spring has arrived here in Australia and all the flowers are starting to bloom. Near where I live in Toowoomba, each year they have the Carnival of Flowers. Toowoomba is known as the Garden City, but it's next level when it's Carnival! It's a huge event with the stunning gardens and flowers as the centrepiece.
With this happening, I figured it was an excellent time to get my Tilda Embroidery Flower quilt finished so that I could take it to one of the many gardens and get some photos. That's on the to do list for this coming week. But I thought you might like to see how it's progressing! The piecing is complete! You can see it on my design wall (along with a sneak peek of something fun coming soon!), and then have a look at all of those seams!
I've really enjoyed this being my "slow sew" project this year. I've just worked on a few rows here and there, and enjoyed watching it grow across the design wall. I used a pre-cut kit from Elsie Grays. All the squares were laser cut so there's very little fraying, and it was beautifully organised into all the colours!
I popped it on the longarm and quilted it with a sweet hummingbird E2E design by Megan Best for Prostitcher. This is a quilt I'm keeping for me so I couldn't resist the hummingbirds!
Wish me luck finishing up the binding and getting the perfect photo to share the finished quilt with you - hopefully next newsletter!
Speaking of Flowers...
We need to chat about A Year of Flowers! It's the current Block of the Month here at Quiet Play and we are three quarters of the way through. I am loving seeing the beautiful makes from our clever quilters.
The version on the aqua background is by Annette, and the low volume version is by Kim. I'm in love with them both!
Our newest flower block arrives today with October's birth flower - the Cosmos!

While we're getting down to the last few blooms in our Block of the Month, there's still time to join us. You'll get all of the patterns released so far so that you can catch up!
Apparently I really love flowers, and gardens, and all things botanical - but the fabric versions. Don't ask me to name any flowers or attempt gardening. I'm rubbish at that part, best to admire from afar. However including them in quilts? Yes please!
So when Julia Wachs invited me to be a part of the Modern Botanical Sampler, it was an easy yes. I went with my favourite wreath style of pattern with a bunch of leaves. I made my original version in rainbow, but also love Julia's in the sampler colourway.
This is just one of 16 blocks you get when you purchase the Modern Botanical sampler! Designed by amazing makers, using a variety of techniques, you won't want to miss out on this limited time bundle.

It's only available during September, so if you're keen, jump on in now and make it yours.

Click here to view this email in your web browser Hey Reader! The other day I realised it's been a year since we built my studio! I've shifted things around, changed the setup a bit, added a longarm machine, and spent many, many hours playing with fabric, sewing and designing since then. Basically it's my happy space. For those who may not have seen it, I did a series of videos on YouTube showing the progress. This one's the big reveal when everything was all set up. Essentially we built a...
Click here to view this email in your web browser Hey Reader! Carnival of Flowers has arrived here in Toowoomba - so September is all about the blossoms and the blooms. It seems I have absorbed that, perhaps somewhat subconsciously, or maybe I just really like sewing flowers ;) But I have some flowery goodness to share! First up - I got the binding on my Tilda Embroidery Flower quilt and it's complete! We even popped down to one of the local gardens for some photos. The gardens were full of...
Click here to view this email in your web browser Hey Reader! Birthday weekend is now complete! I celebrated on Friday with morning tea with my wonderful family. I had grand plans for some serious sewing time in the arvo (translation: afternoon) with my new Featherweight machine (hello perfect birthday gift!), but it got slightly derailed. But by a good event. My youngest got her L's! For the non Aussies, that's the learner's licence. At 16, once they pass an online test, they can get their...
